About Us

Hands of Care and Hope (HCH) is a faith-based organization based in Kariobangi North, Nairobi, Kenya. It is run by Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa FMSA, a Catholic religious congregation registered in Kenya. HCH was started in the year 2006 by the late Sr. Lydia Pardeller, a Franciscan Missionary Sister for Africa (FMSA).RIP.

Following the charism of the FMSA, Hands of Care and Hope (HCH) offers services that respond to the essential needs of families and children living in extreme poverty situations in the slums of Kariobangi, Huruma, and Korogocho. Hands of Care and Hope has reached out to hundreds of children and families and initiated informal schools and feeding programs. Over the years the program has grown and currently has two Primary and one Secondary school and several activities to empower youth and parents with skills and training to improve the quality of their lives through the provision of basic education and other socio-economic interventions.

The children in our schools come from extremely low-income households with their parents/guardians washing clothes for people while others are engaged in small unreliable roadside businesses. Some children were picked directly from the Dandora dumpsite collecting waste materials for recycling and feeding on waste food for survival. Most of these households survive on less than a dollar a day.

We not only provide quality education to children in this low income settlement called Kariobangi, our schools have also contributed immensely in rehabilitating children to normal life and nurturing responsible adults who pay it forward to their young brothers and sisters as they exit the family and join society meaningfully.

The best way to eradicate poverty is to educate a child.
